Oral cancer early detection
Who is most susceptible to oral cancer?
- People who are exposed to risk factors that could cause oral cancer (tobacco, alcohol, poorly fitted prosthesis, etc.).
- Men over 40.
- Black or Caucasian people.
- People with pre-cancerous lesions in the mouth (erythroplakia, leukoplaquia, lichen planus, etc.).
- Sexually active people.
There is more and more oral cancer among young people who neither smoke nor drink. In many cases the cause seems to be related to sexual transmission of the human papillomavirus (especially strains HPV-16 and HPV – 18).
Remember that oral cancer has a good prognosis and can be cured as long as it is diagnosed and treated early.
