What factors can contribute to the development of oral cancer?
- Tobacco
- Alcohol.
- Poor oral hygiene.
- Teeth or prosthesis that rub against the gums, the lips or the tongue.
- Localized heat from holding a lit cigarette in your mouth or smoking a pipe.
- Localized pressure as a result of a poorly fitted prosthesis or other objects that press too hard and repeatedly on the oral mucous, the lips or the tongue.
- Excessive exposure to the sun without protection.
- Unbalanced diet: lack of fresh fruits and vegetables, an excess of food containing preservatives and other chemical products, etc.
- Chronic mouth infections: virus, fungus, etc.
Sexual transmission in young and sexually active people, especially through oral sex, of the human papillomavirus especially the strains VPH-16 and VPH-18.
Oral cancer has a good prognosis and can be cured as long as it is diagnosed and treated early. Have a checkup at least once or twice a year even if you don’t notice anything out of the ordinary. We will make sure to keep your mouth in perfect health.
